Platform is a fast-paced class designed to optimize cardiovascular results and increase total body strength. The class combines quick bursts of high intensity, yet low impact, cardio work with periods of lower intensity muscle-sculpting movements. The 55 minutes of high energy, fun and intense interval training at the barre will help burn calories, jumpstart the metabolism and increase overall endurance.
I got to experience a Platform class last week and I loved it! I've been a fan of Pure Barre and know what to expect, but if you've never been, Platform is a great class to start with. In a normal Pure Barre class, I've struggled through the hour taxing out those little muscles I swear to you didn't exist before class. With Platform, you are working your hip flexors and a lot of muscles that are probably more familiar to you. Don't get me wrong - it'll still kick your ass, but I found myself thinking that the hour flew by a lot faster than it does when I'm agonizing over the millionth "tuck." :)
I know a lot of group classes have been likened to step aerobics, but this is truly like step aerobics, with some high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and barre mixed in. Platform is built on the foundation of a traditional Pure Barre class, yet introduces a “platform” as a new piece of equipment to incorporate larger ranges of motion and cardio sprints, which in turn lead to increased periods of heart rate elevation.
