Did you know? Danai Gurira, who you might know as Okoye, general of the Dora Milaje and head of the Wakandan army in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War is also a Tony™-nominated playwright. You can catch her latest play, Familiar, right now at Seattle Rep & the Bagley Wright Theater!

Familiar follows the Chinyaramwira family, who is getting ready for the marriage of their eldest daughter in the dead of a Minnesota winter. An unexpected family member turns up to help lead the bride and groom through a traditional Zimbabwean custom for their wedding - and drops a few long-kept family secrets right before the rehearsal dinner.

Make sure to show up a few minutes early to read up on the impact of colonization and Christianity in the lobby before the play. Familiar focuses a lens on the messy, hilarious, spirited dynamic of a modern first-generation Zimbabwean American family, revealing the layers of complexities rooted in the search for a sense of belonging.

Familiar is at Seattle Rep through May 27th. Get your tickets at SeattleRep.org!
