The Washington State Fair also opens this weekend. Here's a roundup of opening weekend highlights & celebrations:
- Friday, September 2:
- KOMO’s First Day at the Fair Food Drive, with free admission from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with a suggested food donation to benefit the Puyallup Food Bank.
- BECU Free Kids’ Days – Kids under age 18 are free ALL weekend (Fri.-Mon.). No coupon required.
- J. Cole kicks off the Columbia Bank Concert Series in the Grandstand at 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday, September 3
- Free entertainment on stages throughout the Fair, in SillyVille and of course in the barns.
- Kid Rock returns to the Fair with his Grandstand show at 7:30 p.m.
- Sunday, September 4:
- American Diabetes Association Day – Fundraise to Stop Diabetes, earn free early admission to the Fair and more. Click here for details.
- Country superstar Tim McGraw takes the Grandstand stage at 7:30 p.m.
- Monday, September 5 – End of Summer Bash:
- Free Big WA Bobbleheads to the first 1,000 paid guests
- Military Appreciation Day – Free gate admission for active, reserve and retired military, National Guard and their dependents, plus disabled veterans when valid ID is shown.
- $2 rides until 2 p.m. Good for use throughout the entire day. *Excludes Extreme Scream and Adventure Zone rides.
- 5 p.m. – Free Grandstand concert featuring the official Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band A1A.
- 3 – 5 p.m. – Pre-show party with food, drinks and entertainment for all ages. Ticket purchase required. Available athttp://www.thefair.com/.

The Lodges on Vashon are hosting a Craft Collective featuring local designers on Sunday, September 4th.

The EMP is hosting a fun-filled day next Thursday in honor of the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, featuring their Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds exhibit!
