One of the reasons I started Fresh Jess was to give a platform to the small businesses and non-profits doing cool things in the Emerald City. I first heard about Others Like Us a few months ago, and now is the perfect time to share a bit about their mission.
Seattle's Union Gospel Mission created Others Like Us to tell the stories of those homeless in the city. Others Like Us (OLU) is committed to stand with others who are just like us. By telling and understanding their stories, they strive to break down the barriers that keep us separate – and better understand our own stories.
On Friday, November 21st, Moksha is hosting Seattle's Union Gospel Mission and Others Like Us for "Art from the Street" - part launch party for OLU, part open mic for performers to share their experience with homelessness, and part social hour for artists, community organizers, homeless men and women and others to interact in a friendly environment.
Moksha is offering 10% off any purchase when you donate warm clothing to their winter clothing drive. All proceeds and any donations from the night go directly to the SUGM so that they can continue their good work combating the plight of homelessness in Seattle.
