halloween swagga like us

halloween tonight

halloween @ two of my favorite joints!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Friends and Troublemakers -

Need to blow off a little steam before Election Day? Can Tuesday not come soon enough? You’re not alone, but you are in luck: Halloween arrives at the perfect time this year.

THE SAINT is fully outfitted in Dia de Los Muertos décor, and HAVANA has never looked spookier. Tomorrow night — Halloween night — in a stunt that we haven’t pulled off in nearly two years, DJs N8, SOUL and CURTIS (a ghoulish trifecta) will be killing it at the World’s Greatest Bar.

By the way, Halloween is also St. Quentin’s Day. Seriously.
So be sure to stop by for your candy!

Be safe — and don’t forget to VOTE!!!

denim warehouse sale - this weekend!

ignore the danity kane reject in the flyer and pay attention to the details. this is a denim warehouse sale based in california and featuring thousands of sample jeans from the showrooms of lots of major denim designers. don't go there looking for that pair of sevens or R&Rs you've been eyeing at mercer - shopping at the warehouse sale is kind of like shopping at nordstrom rack, you might hit the jackpot finding a ton of great pairs, or you might not see anything you like. last time they were here, i picked up awesome pairs of hudsons, habituals and antik. try to go on saturday if you're not too hungover from halloween :)

LOL, this is to get you pumped for thread

IV sho

since i don't have the stress of consecutive events breathing down my neck at the moment, i've been able to foray back into the world of "do for self" - i.e. working out, cooking, reading, etc. i had my ass handed to me in ab lab last night but it felt awesome and it gave me the energy i've been missing sitting at my desk getting flabby for 10 hours a day, every day.

i treated myself to a little shopping spree on amazon and picked up a few books to read this season. one of my new reads is by one of my favorite authors, chuck klosterman. who doesn't love sex, drugs & cocoa puffs? i read his flawless, sarcastic writing and think to myself, "how come i can't write like that? how come i can't be that clever when i write my stupid blogs?"

pipe dreams of being a sarcastic pop culture writer aside, i love his book IV and i'm only about 63 pages into it. so far i've learned that val kilmer is a weirdo with a massive ranch in new mexico, that chuck mastered the art of mixing sauces to go with his mcnugget diet, and that steve nash is pretty much everyone's favorite canadian. if you love pop culture and really enjoy making references to all things pop - chuck klosterman is your man

another reason why wal-mart sucks

cnnMoney.com: Nike hits Wal-Mart with copycat suit
Apparel maker accuses world's largest retailer of selling shoes too close to patented Nike Shox.

"Nike does not sell its own product in Wal-Mart and has long argued that its brand would be devalued if sold in discount chains."

the most sensible thing i've heard in awhile

NYTimes.com Op-Ed contribution by Warren Buffett: Buy American. I Am.

my favorite part of mr. buffett's op-ed (only his fourth in 35 years!):
"Today people who hold cash equivalents feel comfortable. They shouldn’t. They have opted for a terrible long-term asset, one that pays virtually nothing and is certain to depreciate in value. Indeed, the policies that government will follow in its efforts to alleviate the current crisis will probably prove inflationary and therefore accelerate declines in the real value of cash accounts.

Equities will almost certainly outperform cash over the next decade, probably by a substantial degree. Those investors who cling now to cash are betting they can efficiently time their move away from it later. In waiting for the comfort of good news, they are ignoring Wayne Gretzky’s advice: “I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been."

i switched blog counters the other night, just for the hell of it. before i left blogcounter, though, i took a look at my stats & analytics. first of all, it's creepy how much these counter things can track about your blog and the people who visit it. i discovered that:
1) people from over 30 countries including turkey, taiwan and denmark wanna know wassup. holla!

2) almost 50% of my unique visits come from myspace (status updates help, y'all)

3) my blogs have made their way into some weird search results

anywho, total randomness - just thought i'd share! thanks for the love and the visits

the young & the banging

the young & the banging. no, i am not talking about myself. i am talking about my obsession of the moment. it started out with a crazed google search for nike sportswear (i know i'm late...whatever) and ended with me all over this project's website.

from youngandbanging.com:
THE YOUNG AND THE BANGING is a co-created yearbook project and gallery show that exposes popular and interesting communities from cities across the globe with a focus on the young people that make them tick. We handpick and invite both people and companies within those communities to work with us as partners to make our yearbooks and gallery shows happen.

the young and the banging's first city subject - NYC of course - was featured in a gallery show co-produced with nike sportswear.

awesome. we must bring them here to seatown. they would have a fucking ball at sing sing.

touchdown animals

originally i was just going to post this because i thought it was cute that seahawks players were posing with rescued animals in the Pasado's Safe Haven Pro-Compassion Calendar. then i read the story of Pasado and how he inspired Susan Michaels to do her part in making sure animal cruelty is eliminated in washington state and i really had to cry.

visit pasado's safe haven to order your Pro-Compassion Calendar - but make sure you also read Pasado's story while you're there. it'll break your heart to know how many dbags are out there doing despicable things to animals. you'll also find out how you can help Pasado's Safe Haven's cause!

"let's try to take everyone's attention off of the failing economy by talking smack about the other guy!"

CNN.com: Obama campaign rejects Palin 'terrorist' gibe

With Obama rising in polls while the country struggles in the grip of a financial crisis, Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign decided to shift attention away from the troubled economy and on to issues of his opponent's character, judgment and personal associations, the Washington Post reported.

"We're going to get a little tougher," a senior Republican operative said, requesting anonymity because he wasn't authorized to discuss strategy. "We've got to question this guy's associations. Very soon. There's no question that we have to change the subject here."

"What's clear is that John McCain and Sarah Palin would rather spend their time tearing down Barack Obama than laying out a plan to build up our economy," Sevugan said.
